Supporting fairy tern volunteers

Volunteers with the Trust boat at Mangawhai

Fairy tern volunteers assist DOC with monitoring the birds during the breeding season .

Volunteers work at Waipu, Mangawhai, Te Arai and Pakiri.

The Trust supplies telescopes, tape and posts to rope off nesting areas.

At Mangawhai, volunteers are ferried to the breeding site in the Trust boat, “Audrey” named after our first patron, Audrey Williams who monitored fairy terns for years until she died aged 90.
